The BBC Rainbow arrived on Wednesday and anchored off of Fort Lauderdale waiting its turn to for a berth in Port Everglades.
Our first sighting of the BBC Rainbow off Fort Lauderdale
On Thursday, June 4 we were instructed to be in the staging area at Port Everglades at 8:00 am on Friday morning for an 8:30 am loading schedule. We would be the first boat loaded onto the BBC Rainbow.
We were at the 17th St bridge for the 7:30 opening on Friday morning. The staging area was just on the other side of the bridge and we waited there until a little after 8. When the load master told us they were ready, we hailed the Port Everglades harbormaster and received permission to proceed into the restricted zone and to the BBC Rainbow. The crew of the Rainbow threw us strips of yellow webbing that we tied to our cleats and the other ends of the webbing were secured to the railing on the cargo ship about 30 feet above. We thought we were going to be able to go aboard the Rainbow to make sure Current Life was secure for the voyage, but the crew didn’t want us aboard because of Covid concerns. Instead, a small tender took us back to the marina where the RV was parked and we were on the road by 9:15 am.
