Since the border was still closed to non-essential travel, we found yet another Canadian captain to sail Current Life from Victoria Harbour to the US. Captain Duncan had originally agreed to deliver the boat to Blaine, WA but ended up diverting to Point Roberts because he was unable to arrange customs clearance in Blaine. Point Roberts is unique in that it’s part of the US, but you can’t drive there without going through Canada. We ended up having to hire a boat to take us the 13nm across Boundary Bay.
Captain Duncan had to self-quarantine for two weeks when he returned to Canada, even though he was only in the US for a few hours. We agreed to pay his salary for his time in self-quarantine. Seemed like a bargain compared to keeping the boat in Victoria for the duration of the travel restrictions.
We didn’t stay in Point Roberts. As soon as we got Current Life signed off by customs, we sailed her back to Blaine.
